Pittsburgh News Round-up

So today I’ve decided to just gather a bunch of news from around Pittsburgh and write little blurbs about them.  I’ve had some car trouble lately and just found out how much it’s going to cost me.  I’d love to post the dealership’s name and bad mouth them about how expensive their service is, but I won’t and can’t because, they’ve personally done nothing wrong to me and have been pretty upfront about what’s going on with my car.  I guess that’s the best any of us could hope for when it comes to customer service.  Even if it does cost a butt load to fix something.

Ok so here we go.  First up, the University of Pittsburgh Panthers basketball team fell to Indiana last night.  It was pretty much turnover after turnover from the young Pitt squad and it cost them.  No surprise really.  However, I’m really surprised that in the past 5 games, Pitt has turned the ball over more times than they have assists in their games.  That is absolutely staggering.  Jamie Dixon will get it all sorted out, and this young Pitt team will be highly underrated through most of the year.

In non related sports news, Dan Onorato(hopeful Pennsylvania Governor) outlined his ways to help boost education and research around these parts.  The article can be found here.  My only question I have to this is him finding ways to increase certain funding in various areas, as well as PHEAA support.  As long as that doesn’t have a chance of backfiring on alcohol drinkers, I’m cool with it.

CMU has come out with a report that intense tutoring increase brain connections and activity.  I’d certainly hope so, I wouldn’t want to find out my kid is an idiot after I dropped tons of money for him to be tutored.  I’m pretty sure that’s good news in the tutor front though, good for that.

Ron Cook’s article about University of Pittsburgh’s Andrew Janocko and how he’s been handling the days after his fumbled snap, that helped Cincy clinch the Big East title, is spot on.  Janocko seems like a good guy, and has an even better support system with family and friends letting him know everything is all right.  I personally can’t blame him for that loss this past Saturday.  It’s unfortunate, but the defense can’t point fingers at his play when they gave up a ton.  I’m not saying they did, but most people can’t pinpoint one thing or person per that loss.  Total defensive team effort.

James Harrison is an absolute beast.  He’s recently come out and said “Do your job,” to his Pittsburgh Steelers Defense.  I’d be terrified if someone like that told me to do my job.  Ike Taylor also has a few snippets about his job and relating it to the media world.  If Ike Taylor could cover and catch, we wouldn’t be in this issue to ridicule. However, he can’t so here we are.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are eying up utility infielder Bobby Crosby…who cares?  Also, don’t look now, but the Pirates are willing to deal Maholm and Duke.  OH LAWD.  Seriously Mr. Nutting, sell the team.  Bring someone in who cares.

On the Penguins front Gonchar talks about the Penguins not being able to get any worse on the power play.  Technically they could.  They are only the 3rd worst team in the league.  Optimism I know, but when they are still ranked number 1 in the east and still have a horrid power play, just think what they could do when they get on.  Yowza.

Finally the last bit of information I have is regarding Troy Polamalu’s injury and how he’s either in or out this year.  Multiple reports are

Troy Polamalu of the Pittsburgh Steelers

coming out that he’s working on coming back and on the other end of the spectrum that he may sit out for the rest of the year.  As long as he’s healthy and really ready to return, then do it.  If not, shut him down until next year so the team can get back at it.  The Madden curse seems to be real my friends.

Well that seems to be the glaring issues involving Pittsburgh today.  I wouldn’t even call them issues, I’d say more of an informational update than anything.

Ps.  I could do a weatherman’s job with ease.  Rain and thunder in December, when it was supposed to be snow?
