93.7 The Fan…is it sticking for you?

93.7 The Fan, has been open and running for months now and I’ve been thinking, is the station sticking?  It’s been majorly hyped, I’ve seen signs for it all over the place, I’ve switched on and dialed in, and I even gave it my attempt at listening throughout the day.

However, considering all of that, it just can’t grasp me.  The morning show to me is annoyingly bad, and don’t get me wrong, it has the potential to be awesome.  They’ve just moved Gregg Giannati from his night show to the morning show and removed John Burton from the morning to make him the Steelers beat reporter.  Was this the smartest move?  Paul Alexander has been nothing but a bore from my personal opinion.  Too many times he goes off on conversation dominating tangent about what he’s done, where he’s golfed, and who he’s met.   The crappy thing is, is that this isn’t a situation that happens once in awhile, I find myself turning the station off when it happens at least once a day.

I don’t know, I just don’t find myself looking to tune in to the station when that’s going on.  It’s not even essentially as sports centric as I thought it’d be.  I know, I know, it’s the summer and not much is going on.  However, if I wanted to promote a station as the leader in Pittsburgh sports, I’d be trying to get constant interviews lined up with prominent Pittsburgh sports figures.

The good thing however is that the University of Pittsburgh is now exclusive to the station.  That’s awesome, because I think it was vital to the stations success that this had happened.  Also, I could see the Pirates broadcasting their games on the radio with the station in the near future as well.  Which is also another great thing.

All in all I think it’s still a great thing to have in the city.  I do however feel that many line up changes are needed to better grasp a fan base in the city, and that goes for the entire day’s format.

I listen to the fan every day. I love it. Gregg (yes it’s spelled with 2 gs) Giannati is wonderful on the morning show. I do wish they kept JB and got rid of Alexander. Gregg does a good job of stopping his tangents. I think the show would be much better if they stopped trying to be Jim and Randy on DVE and just stuck to sports. Like this am…why the hell were they talking to some playboy covergirl/actress??!!! It’s a SPORTS show!
But as long as those moments are few and far between I will keep listening.
I can’t listen in the afternoon which is good b/c Vinnie and Cook make me want to jump off a bridge.

I 100% agree. Sorry about the misspelling, I corrected it! I do think keeping Alexander on the morning show is a bad idea, I also feel like there is some tension there during certain points of the show, especially when Alexander does one of his tangents.

    I can’t stomach Paul Alexander.

I can’t get past Vinnie’s Al Michaels’ Brooklyn type accent. That and the fact that Cookie never agrees with anything he says make it a pretty annoying program. I pretty much enjoy the rest of the programming.

Cook knows his stuff. Vinny seemingly never does an ounce of homework and makes inane statements which quite naturally upset Ron Cook and myself. With all the local talent in the Pittsburgh market we get stuck with Vinny??

Some of the guys on 93.7 can be a bit over the top and obviously biased. Other than that, it’s okay.
