G20: Pittsburgh In International Spotlight

Well, it’s here everyone.  A day that possible Pitstburghers have dreaded, dignitaries have anticipated, and protesters have planned ahead for.  The G-20 Summit is in town and ready to get started, well in the afternoon anyways.  However, it really is an amazing time I guess for the city as a whole, being the only the second non capital city to hold the G-20(Montreal was the first in 2000).  Which in turn focuses the international spotlight on our little hard working town, and hopefully it shows the real beauty of what this city has to offer.  It’s kind of amazing how we’ve made a big transition to a hard working steel town, to a green-envy technological town over the years.

CMU, Robert Morris, and The University of Pittsburgh all provide great resources for local and transplanted students to hone their craft of technology, and the city does a great job of offering positions of the like available.  While, the protests will get most of the spotlight I’m sure of this week(due to media needing their ratings), pay mind to what actually is happening around the city, and take notice as the dignitaries see how far we’ve come, even though we were laughed at when they announced Pittsburgh would be holding the Summit.

So here is my official “Yinzpitt.com Welcomes the World to Pittsburgh and the G-20 Summit,”  and for the rest of us just trying to work out there in the city, good luck, stay safe, and be proud to be from this wonderful town!

The delegates that are coming to our city are from these following countries:

Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey and the United Kingdom, European Union

Also be aware for local road closings in the city, as delegates and our President Barack Obama will be arriving today for the meetings.  A link to the closings can be found here:  http://www.yinzpitt.com/2009/09/g-20-road-closures-posted/
