Today is election day. One of the better days of the year to get your vote on and support your beliefs in the political system. The biggest election to take place today is the Mayor election. Mayor RavengettingitdonerightenStahl, is up for re-election, and honestly I haven’t heard much about his other running mates, let alone this election at all. However, if your registered to vote, please do.
Voting is taking place from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. for mayor and other public offices. However you must be registered at the specific polling station you are going to vote at. Also, they request if your a first time voter to bring a photo ID with them. Acceptable forms of ID include a Pennsylvania driver’s license or other state-issued ID card, a U.S. passport, a student ID, an employee ID or a U.S. armed forces ID.
There are three people running for the office of Mayor – Kevin Acklin, Franco “Dok” Harris, and potential re-elect Mayor Ravenstahl. All three have different opinions and ideologies that could make them the potential candidate you vote for. However, I must not promote blind voting and urge you to research you’re potential vote intensely before making a decision that could turn out affecting the whole city.
Even with Mayor Luke Ravenstahl to win the election favorably, you never know. A surprise or two could happen and he could end up losing the election. Either way, today is sure to be a big day for the people who live and work in the city.
Finally on some much needed Pittsburgh Steelers news, veteran safety Ryan Clark is sill undecided on playing Monday in Denver. The last time he played there, his rare sickle cell disease flared up from the altitude and caused his body to go into shut-down mode, which made him lose 30 pounds along with his spleen and gall bladder. Mike Tomlin said in the press conference yesterday that he’s still undecided:
“His physical health, his well-being, of course, is paramount,” Tomlin said Monday. “We’re going to attempt to do what’s right, we’re going to weigh all our options and we’re going to come to a decision at some point later this week.”
He was also stated as saying, after it was apparent that Clark was cleared medically to play:
“I think before we considered anything, we needed to hear, `OK, Ryan, you’re at no extra medical risk to participate in this game than anyone else is,’ ” Tomlin said. “He and I have received that, but we’re still going to proceed with extreme caution. We’re not going to hurry this process.”
Also on Ryan Clark’s sickle cell disease and finding out Santonio Holmes also has the trait Tomlin said:
“Ryan is a unique case where it’s the sickle cell trait in combination with some other pre-existing medical issue that creates it,” Tomlin said. “Santonio is not at any unique risk, unless he, too, shares that same medical situation, which I believe at this point he does not.”
Also through other various quotes and media comments, it’s clear that Ryan’s teammates are more than ok with him not playing the game. Hines Ward is quoted as saying:
“Whatever he decides, we’re going to back him. But if it was me, personally, life is more precious than football,” Ward said. “Any time you miss a game and don’t feel injured, you want to play because that’s one game you’ll never get back. But you’ve got to look at the big picture. There’s still a lot of football left and we’d rather have Ryan for the long haul rather than the short term.”
Finally after all this is said and done, if Ryan Clark decides not to play either Tyrone Carter or Deshea Townsend could possibly play the safety spot. Here’s to another beating and showing the world that Kyle Orton is a fluke.
