Jeff Reed Takes Blame For Pittsburgh Steelers Loss

Yesterday’s loss was a rough way to end the weekend if your a Steelers fan.  Two missed field goals and opportunities all over the field blown up(especially the 3rd and 2, that turned into a deep pass attempt).  However, there is one person taking this loss more personally than anyone else, Jeff Reed.

Reed stated yesterday after the game:

“I know they have confidence in me. It just hurts me because I let them down,” Reed said. “I’m not fighting the whole game. I’m in there in the kicking net warming up, waiting for my opportunity to shine and I let them down twice. It’s a terrible feeling but at the same time you live to fight another day.”

It basically sums up the feeling I felt when they lost as well.  It happens, sure he’s ultra-automatic, but there are going to be games where he misses some field goals, and this time it just meant more on the ones that he missed.  However, he saved us last week and dozens of times in the past.

About the only thing anyone can be worried is the fragility of a kicker’s mind.  It’s often a scary thing, once they get that first miss under their belts, it seems to re-occur more often than not.  However Hines Ward, feels differently about the subject of fragility all together:

“There’s no need to say anything to Jeff,” Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward said. “Jeff’s a professional. We still have a lot of confidence in Jeff.”

I’m more concerned about the issue of that 3rd and 2 last night.  Hines was 6 for 7 receiving, and Heath was about as automatic as you could come.  Holmes, while being a clutch player, looked to of had an off-day yesterday, why force that long throw?  Here’s to next week being better for our beloved Pittsburgh Steelers!

Ps. On a side note, when I type in Jeff Reed in Google Image Search, the only thing I get are shirtless drunk picutres, and him with that crazy hair.
