Well, we’ve run into all kinds of issues regarding my work site and how things are handling on the back end. SQL has dominated us for the most part today and were working on it, but while I wait to hear back from another guy, I figured I’d update Yinzpitt.com with events happening in and around the city for this weekend.
Light Up Night is upon us and should be a rather fun filled traffic evening. It’s been said that because of the warmer weather expect a possible crowd of 200,000+ people. All I know is that I have to drive downtown to pick my other half up. It could be a nightmare, that I actually have to sit through. Either way though, if your going to check it out and head downtown. Expect to arrive early and pay a hefty price to park anywhere in the city if you want to be close to the action and have to do little walking.
If your looking for events to do around the city during this occasion head to: http://www.downtownpittsburgh.com/news/pdp-announces-light-up-night-2009
Also I’ll post the parade route and road closures here so people don’t have to search for that:
Light Up Night Road and River Closures-Roberto Clemente Bridge (Sixth Street): full closure at 10 a.m. for bridge party stage installation and set-up. It will reopen at midnight.
-Andy Warhol Bridge (Seventh Street): Single lane closure at 10 a.m. (side closest to Clemente Bridge) for fireworks installation; full closure at 8 p.m. to prepare for fireworks launch.
- Fourth Avenue (to Stanwix Street at PPG Plaza): Closed from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
-Penn Avenue from Fifth Ave. Extension to Stanwix Street: Closed from 6 – 7:30 p.m.
-Liberty Avenue from Delray to Stanwix: Closed due to North Shore Connector Project-Smithfield Street (between Fifth and Fourth avenues): Partial closure at 4:30 p.m.; full closure at 6 p.m. It will reopen at 8:30 p.m.-Allegheny River: The U.S. Coast Gaurd will close the Allegheny River to traffic between mile marker 0.4 to 0.8 extending the entire width of the river from 9:10 until 9:30 p.m.
Parade Route – Rolling road closures will occur as the Highmark Light Up Night March makes its way via police escort from Macy’s to the Roberto Clemente Bridge. The parade will begin on Smithfield in front of Macy’s, turn left onto Forbes, left onto Wood, right onto Fourth into the closure barricade where it will stop to perform. It will then turn around in place and turn left onto Wood, left onto Sixth Avenue, left onto Liberty, right onto Sixth Street and will cross Ft. Duquesne Boulevard. Traffic disruption will be temporary and no more than 10 minutes as the parade passes through.
If your coming down, be safe and enjoy! It should be a great time to get into the holiday spirit….even if it is starting before Thanksgiving…
