Pittsburgh’s Rivers Partly Closed For G-20

Commercial and recreational boats will be prohibited from using about 4 miles of the city’s three rivers during the Group of 20 economic summit, the U.S. Coast Guard said Tuesday.  The boundaries of the security zone established by the Coast Guard will be Lock Wall One Marina near the 16th Street Bridge on the Allegheny River, the 10th Street Bridge on the Monongahela River and the West End Bridge on the Ohio River.

No river traffic will be allowed inside those boundaries between 6 a.m. Thursday and 10 p.m. Friday, the Coast Guard said.  200 members of the Coast Guard will be patrolling the waters on the hunt for suspicious boats as well as protesters looking to make an impact by use of water.  Also the Coast Guard said the boats they will be using are 10-25 Ft long boats and ALL Guards WILL be armed.

Finally, for an afternoon update, there has been word of small protests taking place at the USX against UPMC and at the University of Pitt.  Good luck out there people, tomorrow should be a bit more hectic, but it looks to of started and protesters are getting into the full swing prior to the G-20 starting.
