Ravenstahl + Snow= SRS BUSNESS

I’d like to believe what Pittsburgh’s Mayor Luke Ravenstahl has in his plans about this upcoming snowfall.  I’d also like to believe that what he’s actually said about this past weekends snowfall in Pittsburgh was actually true:

The goal for secondary streets is “to at least get them treated in some way before the additional snow starts to fall tomorrow,” Mr. Ravenstahl said by phone. “I want to make sure that those roads that haven’t been touched are dealt with.

“The thought process and rationale is to attempt to get at least the top layer of snow off of all streets” before snow starts again.

Mr. Ravenstahl said that starting at noon, firefighters were ordered into the streets to help people to dig out cars, to ensure that access to hydrants isn’t blocked and to generally “deal with senior citizen issues. … We are doing everything we can and using every resource we can.”

This excerpt was taken from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette and can be found here.  Really though Luke, I’d certainly love to believe that.  I’d also love to believe that you’re going to touch all of the secondary roads.  However, please don’t say that you’re going to get all of them, because you certainly haven’t and man power won’t allow it.

Mcknight Road up until 12:30 pm yesterday had been hardly dealt with.  It’s not only a main road, it’s a HIGH traffic main road.  It was also closed on Saturday, and when I went out on Sunday it was still barely treated.  Now, since it was closed on Saturday, why wasn’t it clean on MONDAY?  It was closed for a reason, it was dangerous and it needed to be cleaned.  A half assed attempt doesn’t count as a great effort.  This is my little gripe with the outside portion of city limits.

My next argument for Ravenstahl comes with what happened inside the city.  279 was fine actually, I’ll commend them for that.  However, as soon as I hit Grant Street, it was more than terrible.  It looked like it had a once over and that was it.  Grant Street was a main road, and it was garbage.  Oh come to think of it.  So was Liberty Avenue.  Oh and so was Penn Avenue.

Today, Penn Avenue is still spotty in some areas.  Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but the inside of the city is his jurisdiction.  I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt, however I’m going to be more than surprised if this storm is handled any better with the amount of snow already on the ground.  It just leaves very little room to put all the new snow on top of the old snow.

Well, it’s noon now, and the storm is already late.  Could this be a farse?  Who knows, but if it does come down.  Be careful!

While I certainly think Mayor Lukie has massively failed the city this week, McKnight Road isn’t his fault—only the very southern tip of it is in the city. Most of it is either Ross or McCandless; additionally, it’s a state highway, and so could arguably be PennDOT’s problem.

Similarly, the Boy Wonder gets no credit for 279 or any of the other expressways; that’s all PennDOT’s doing.

Yea, I tried to make mention that I don’t know if Mcknight was his. It was just a massive fail all around for being closed a day.

The city was just unbearable, and as predicted is still kinda bad in most spots. Not that it can be helped, but all his PR stuff just had to go.
