Steelers Life Without Santonio/Pens Play-off Schedule

Everyone!  Don’t jump off that building just yet.  Step away, sit down, have a beer and relax!  Of course by now everyone knows that Santonio Holmes was traded for a 5th round pick to the Jets.  Sure, they could of gotten more.  Sure they could of kept him and put up with his antics, because after all, he was a Super Bowl MVP.  However they didn’t, and they did the next best thing.

They got something for nothing.  Just hear me out on this one, ok?  Of course the Steelers gave away great talent.  Such a great talent, that was facing legal troubles with a night club run in, and then is now facing a possible 4 game suspension due to him violating the NFL substance abuse policy again.  So, that being said, with him being a FA and all, and only allowing him to play for a limited season….why not move him for a pick or something?

His legal troubles aside, it was made known recently that the Steelers weren’t in the mood to give Tone the money he wanted.  So why not move him for at least something?  Even if it was a 5th round pick.  Wide Receivers are a dime a dozen in this league.  While he was a good wide-out, he wasn’t a great wide-out.  It’s obvious, coupled with his issues off the field that no teams were interested in giving up something for the dude.

This bit of information was taken from ProFootBallTalk.NBCSports.com regarding Holmes trade status with the Steelers:

Per a league source, the Steelers “called everyone” regarding the possibility of trading for Holmes.  (The source then acknowledged that the Ravens likely weren’t called, and possibly not the Browns or the Bengals.  The Eagles don’t see a potential problem with calling any of those three teams.)

The process began, we’re told, on Friday and accelerated over the weekend.  And no one else was seriously interested.

Still, as pointed out in a coming edition of PFT Daily, the Steelers should have shipped him to the NFC, even if it meant only taking a sixth-round pick or a seventh-round pick.

Certainly interesting if true.  His value had absolutely bottomed out, and it looks like he’s turned into a reclamation project.  Of course, if you asked Santonio himself on his Twitter page, he’d of responded.  IT’S NOT MY FAULT.  IT’S THEM!

Moving on to the Pittsburgh Penguins.  A huge congrats is in order to Sidney Crosby for scoring his 50th and 51st goal to share the Rocket Richard trophy with Steven Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightening.  It’s also Crosby’s first year with 50 goals or more.  Truly spectacular.  Of course by now most fans know the Pens are in the play-offs and will face off against the Ottawa Senators.   Should be a crazy series.  Here is the listed schedule of dates and times they will play;

Wed Apr 14, 2010 Senators Penguins 7:00 PM VERSUS, CBC(HD)
