The Craziness of Spring in Pittsburgh

Of course, I’m not talking about anything weather related.  I’m talking everything related to sports here!  The Pirates are really close to opening the season, the Pittsburgh Penguins are starting to roll, and the draft along with free agency are starting to shape up for the Pittsburgh Steelers.  It’s a hectic time if you’re a fan, so here we go!  I’m providing you multiple stories today, for the sake of my boredom and yours!

Starting with the Pirates….

The Pittsburgh Pirates made roster moves today re-assigning players to their Triple-A affiliates, the Indianapolis Indians.  The players that were included in the cuts were; top pitching prospect Brad Lincoln, catcher Tony Sanchez and pitchers Donnie Veal, Bryan Morris, Jeff Sues, Justin Thomas and Virgil Vasquez.  All of these players will now report to their minor-league spring training.

Lincoln was the kinda sorta surprise as he was tabbed as the possible 5th starter in the Pirates rotation, however with guys like Hart(who sucks), Charlie Morton(who’s eh), and Daniel McCutchen(who’s basically unknown at this point), it was plain to see that upper management thought his time would be best served being the Indian’s ace in the rotation.  Either way, it’s good for Lincoln, as he’ll get quality starts, and get called up sometime throughout the year, because surely, the people before him will crumble.

I’m growing ever so excited for opening day.  I really think their line-up is half decent, and their pitching staff is about as good as it’s gonna get for awhile.  I boldly won’t make any predictions regarding records, but I think they can get over .500, or at least sniff near it.

Moving on to the Pittsburgh Steelers…

The Pittsburgh Steelers have re-signed Larry Foote.  I can’t really say that I’m excited and or surprised about this situation.  The Steelers needed depth, and they picked up the guy that has the best mind set for the position.  Even though they are basically paying him starter money the first year, I see him playing obvious running situations, or giving Farrior a break.  Timmons is a guy you can’t give up on, and I’m sure they won’t, but when you have an ever so aging Farrior out there, it’s best to give him a rest during the game to keep him fresh at the end.

The Roethlisberger case has grown to the point of having a private investigator involved.  He also missed the first set of OTA’s today.  Which as he was supposed to be there, he never showed up.

and finally the Penguins…

Evgeni Malkin, took a shot off of his leg/ankle and while it was initially feared that it was a serious injury, he was listed day-to-day after the x-rays he took today came back negative.

Crosby also was really close to having his knee destroyed by Steve Downie of the Tampa Bay Lightening last night.  Safe to say that Crosby wasn’t seriously hurt, and Downie is still a pile of crap.
