Tomlin not interested in other teams

Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers is all man.  Sure, there are a few times where he’s made some crazy calls or even downright stupid calls, but one thing is for certain.  He calls it like it is, not matter what, no matter who it is aimed at.  He uses his words as weapons and he uses them well.

Instead of lobbying and trying to get teams to play their starters during a meaningless game before the play-offs, he’s doing the opposite.  He’s simply saying he doesn’t care and it’s not his place to say anything.  About as perfect and on point as you can get in this situation.  He’s stated as saying:

“I could care less how the Bengals approach what it is they do,”

“I really have no opinion, I trust that those coaches are going to do what they feel is best for their football teams. I’m going to do what’s best for mine. Very rarely do I pass judgment on the decision-making of other coaches in regard to other teams, because I don’t have a pulse on their group.”

“I think we’re all competitors and we play to win,” Tomlin said. “Every time we come out of that tunnel, that’s the intent. The ramifications, in regard to other teams, is irrelevant to me. It’s more about the people that I come out of the tunnel with and our commitment to this organization, our fans, our community. So we come out to win.”

“This our bed. We’re going to lay in it,” Tomlin said. “We created this situation. What we are going to do is control what we can control, and that’s our preparation of play for the game. We’re not going to cry over spilled milk. If there’s any level of disappointment in terms of how this thing unfolds, it’s going to be on us.”

With his whole above statement from Tuesday’s press meeting, he’s absolutely on point.  It’s really nobodies problem but their own.  It’s up to the players to finish the season strong and see what happens with the other teams playing for a spot.  I applaud him for taking this stance, even if he desperately wants in to the play-offs more than anything, he’s doing a great job of not showing it.

In other news, James Harrison and Casey Hampton have made the Pro-Bowl this year.  Big Ben was listed as a reserve, which considering the year he is having is out right absurd.  Tom Brady was the final selection and he’s been average until late.  Ben’s broken his records and career stats this year, as far as I’m concerned he’s the started, but whatever.

I also think Ben will more than likely make it to the actual bowl anyways.  Tom Brady if they lose enjoys sitting out and having a hissy fit.  So here’s to Ben making the cut.

Other than that, everyone have a safe and wonderful New Year!  I’ll see you on the other side!
