USA Stuns Canada/#FF Winner Picked

So we’ll start out with the good news.  As per Friday, YinzPitt had a contest.  It was fairly simple and the rules can be found here.  #FF Question of The Day Give Away! Thanks with the help of random.org, and making a list of the responses in terms of first response to last.  It’s been decided that the winner of this give away is…SteelTownGirl!! So congrats to her, and I hope she enjoys the brand new Hairy Helmet Antenna Ball provided by HairyHelmet.com!

Moving on from the first successful giveaway.  Pitt ended up beating Nova this weekend in an exciting game, that came down to the final seconds, and foul shots.  I think it all but cements that Jamie Dixon is one hell of a coach.  I don’t know if he’d bloom in the NBA, but I think if he goes anywhere in terms of college teams, he’ll generate success, as he has a great handle on teaching younger guys what he expects from his teams.  All in all, it was a great game to watch, and it’s just another surprise form a young team learning how to adapt with each other.

Moving on to the Olympics, Russia’s and the Penguins Evgeni Malkin had a two goal, and one assist day.  Which was unreal because he was centering, Alex Ovechkin and Alexander Semin.  Usually with AO and Semin, you would think that there wouldn’t be enough pucks to go around, but aside from the hits, AO played back and let Malkin shine, which was rather nice.  It was a great start to an even better day in the hockey world.  I’m just putting this out there right now.  I love Olympic Hockey, it makes me so happy, and it really is the best of the best competing as hard as they can for their country.  It’s just fantastic.  Which segues nicely into a picture I want to present to you below:

The man pictured above, is none other than Ryan Miller.  Sure he looks pretty EMO, and most other days, Crosby owns him, however without a doubt he was flat-out unreal against Canada yesterday.  He was one of the biggest reasons, if not biggest reason why USA stunned Canada in their first meeting of the Olympics.  Canada literally tried everything they could, even camping in the USA’s end in even strength time.  Miller faced shot after shot, and while he let in 3, he saved the other 30 some shots against him.

Really, there is nothing better than watching Canada realize that maybe, just maybe, their team isn’t the best in the tournament.  Even though they are statistically dominant on paper, Team USA for the most part was more physical and had the will to pull it off.  This could end up being a scary situation for other teams, because after this shocker, Canada is not going to lie down.  If anything they come out harder and hungrier than any other team, but at this moment in time, they must win-out to medal.
